Background

HomeWise began its operations in Florida following very active storm seasons in 2004 and 2005 in the state which created a volatile homeowners insurance market. As many insurance companies stopped writing homeowners insurance in Florida, demand was high for experienced, financially sound carriers offering homeowners coverage.

HomeWise was established by insurance professionals with extensive homeowners insurance experience. From the beginning, our company vision has been to provide traditional homeowners insurance products and high quality service at fair prices. Since 2006, the company has expanded beyond Florida into other southern states as well.

Our Vision

HomeWise was created by insurance professionals with extensive property insurance experience, an advantage that is unique to HomeWise. We work to deliver traditional homeowners insurance services and great customer service at fair prices. Our vision is to provide homeowners with peace-of-mind that their homes are not just protected, but cared for. Our company commitment to this vision is realized by using state-of-the-art technology and creating partnerships with the best agents, vendors, administrators and adjusters in the insurance industry. These partnerships result in increased customer satisfaction with all aspects of the insurance process, from policy issuance to claims handling.

Reinsurance

Reinsurance is a form of insurance that insurance companies purchase to protect the company and its policyholders. In markets like Florida where hurricanes pose a great risk, a strong reinsurance program provides another layer of protection to ensure the financial health of the insurer and peace-of-mind for its agents and policyholders.

The HomeWise Insurance Companies are in the business of risk - and they take it seriously. The company maintains an active relationship between capacity and exposure. Probable Maximum Losses, expected catastrophe losses, and concentrations of risk are monitored using detailed geographic coding, computer catastrophe simulations, and dynamic financial models. Underwriting commitments are kept within available reinsurance capacity.

The Companies have placed their catastrophe reinsurance program for contract year 2008/2009. The program is designed to assure long-term stability in the Companies' operations by:

  • Protecting against both frequency and severity of loss;
  • Establishing / Maintaining long-term relationships with private market reinsurers; and
  • Limiting direct reliance on the state catastrophe protection to the amount which can be reinstated in a subsequent season;

At HomeWise, we are prepared. The Companies place their reinsurance protection to cover a 100-yr PML (Probable Maximum Loss), as calculated by complex catastrophe modeling software, with minimal loss to surplus. This coverage is a carefully planned combination of the following:

  • Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund
  • Quota Share Agreement
  • Private Occurrence Excess of Loss

Our substantial program provides enough financial resources to pay for all anticipated claims resulting from at least a 100-year storm or multiple smaller storms. HomeWise purchases reinsurance from reliable, professional partners with outstanding financial security.
